KAMSAMBOU VILLAGE

WEST COAST REGION, THE GAMBIA | POPULATION 250

“This remote village has only one handpump serving the entire village and as a result of the high pressure it keeps breaking down due to poor standard parts and repair. This makes the villagers use open wells in nearby bushes which causes sickness for them. The community is made up of the Baynunka tribe who survive primarily by way of subsistence farming in groundnuts, palm oil farming.”

We didn't even have enough avail water for daily bathing and to maintain self-hygiene and some of our children were always sick due to unsafe water. Now we are relieved and very happy and we want to say that WE THANK YOU VERY MUCH MAD TASTY and DROP4DROP for the sincere concern you have for us.”

PAAPAAN VILLAGE

TAMIL NADU, INDIA | POPULATION 1,368

“The water was available on a private farm. We used to
find it very uncomfortable to go inside and bring water because we were ill-treated by the farm owner. But we had to remain patient as our needs were such we had to suffer shame. We never dreamt that this new water project will reach us. We developed hope when the NEWS NGO had undertaken the survey. We convey our heartfelt gratitude for all your concern on poor people like us. We thank each and every one of the members of MAD TASTY and DROP4DROP.”

BUKONOKA VILLAGE

MPIGI DISTRICT, UGANDA | POPULATION: 350

“There were times when we used to feel ashamed of living here especially when our relatives would come to visit us, we had a challenge of clean water. They would ask for drinking water which we didn’t have because all we had was dirty contaminated water which wasn’t fit for drinking. With support from MAD TASTY in partnership with Drop4Drop, our community Bukonoka village now has a source of clean water. Access to clean water will provide the community with more time to learn for the children, work and earn more for the community members.”

KITIGI VILLAGE

MPIGI DISTRICT, UGANDA | POPULATION: 310

“Jane, a mother from the Kitigi community, used to endure almost a 6 KM walk to and from the nearest water supply to fetch drinking water for her family. She now doesn’t have to travel a long distance for clean drinking water, saving her a tremendous amount of time each day. Jane will even be able to start a small beadwork business, along with several other women in her community, making use of their spare time not spent walking to get water. The construction of this water source has reduced the burden of walking long distances, fetching dirty water and contaminated water.”

ALAPAKKAM SC VILLAGE

TAMIL NADU, INDIA | POPULATION: 1625

The Alapakkam Community were previously using a water tap that only turned on once every 2 days, which was not nearly sufficient enough for a community of this size. Due to the lack of water available, community members were travelling over 1km everyday to collect water from dirty ponds, that were often contaminated and riddled with water-borne diseases.

“It gives me great pleasure in saying few words of gratitude for the new water project you have provided to our village. Indeed it is a great support to all the inhabitants of our village. We used to walk 1 km to fetch the water and lots of time was wasted only for bringing water to our home. We had been longing for a such a great facility and now we are very happy to get such a facility and we convey our heartfelt gratitude.”

“The installation was good and people gathered to witness the installation. People sang and danced and said thanks to us for the good work. Water has been a problem in the village and they have never had a bore-hole but instead used water from open wells. People in the village are poor and they depend on farming. They produce a lot of maize and ground nuts.”

People are farmers and they are poor. The village is very far from the town and villagers find problems to sell their product.”

PERITTIVAKKAM VILLAGE

TAMIL NADU, INDIA | POPULATION: 2150

"When we heard that a tank was to be installed in our village, we were overjoyed. For many years we relied on the local tap, which never was enough for every family in the village. It was not sufficient for use for all of our needs. So we instead walk longer distances to collect water, which is not good for our businesses and our children's schooling. We thank you for the support for the MAD TASTY water program. We shall find good health and our children will find good health. We can focus on our businesses and our children do not need to walk to avail water before their studies."

MADHANAMJERI SC VILLAGE

TAMIL NADU, INDIA | POPULATION 1096

“We want to convey our gratitude for the water facility which is established in our village. The new water source is of great support to our family and basic livelihood. Our old water source was available for only one hour in our village and it was not sufficient and we were suffering a lot. We used to walk long distances, carrying water on our heads and then had to attend to the cooking and washing of clothes. The children were not able to take a bath before they went to school and we were very worried and now we are very happy and are able to get the required water. We thank you very much. ”
